Underwater noise is one of the environmental impacts associated with technologies that harness marine energies. The Marine Strategies drawn up by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment establish the need to measure the levels of noise generated by these devices.
PLOCAN has established an underwater noise monitoring programme in the area of the test bed, which includes periodically installing hydrophones at different depths and in different locations.
In fulfilment of this programme, the third set of hydrophones was moored on 29 May 2015 at a location focusing on the test bed. These are removed after one month and the data are down-loaded for processing. The first hydrophone is moored at a depth of 34.5 metres, the second at 28.8 metres and the third one at 23.4 metres.
